Sleeve gastrectomy, scientifically called sleeve gastrectomy, is a weight-loss surgical procedure in which the size of the stomach is reduced to about 15% of its original size, through surgical removal of a large portion of it along the greater curvature. After this procedure, the shape of the stomach becomes similar to a tube or sleeve, and it permanently reduces the size of the stomach, but the stomach may expand later in life. This procedure is generally performed laparoscopically and is non-reversible (i.e., irreversible).
